Comparing the Oncologic Outcomes of Proton Therapy and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Published in the Green Journal, this database study from Taiwan analyzed 982 patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with IMRT or PBT using 3:1 propensity score matching.

This study reported that patients who received PBT had significantly lower risks of all-cause mortality, cancer-specific death, and locoregional recurrence than those who received IMRT. The authors concluded that proton therapy is associated with superior outcomes for HNSCC compared to IMRT
