Executive summary

This study from the Seattle group reported early results of 8 patients with head and neck mucosal melanoma (HNMM) treated with surgery and adjuvant proton radiation. With a median follow-up of 15 months, the 1-year local control was 88%, distant metastasis-free survival 75%, and overall survival 88%. Only one local failure was observed, and two patients developed distant metastases. No Grade 3 or higher late toxicities were observed. The authors concluded that surgical resection and adjuvant proton radiation provided early favorable local control and toxicity profiles.
