This analysis from Japan based on 30 selected studies reported higher 5-year progression-free survival with particle beam therapy compared to photon RT for skull base chordoma, whereas there was no significant difference in 3- and 5-year overall survival between the modalities. However, the rates of brain necrosis were 8-50% after particle beam therapy and 0-4% after photon RT.
