Published in the Red Journal, this study from the Groningen group reported persistent reduction in cardiopulmonary function caused by radiation exposure of the heart and lung during irradiating thoracic tumors in rats. Recovery of the pulmonary vasculature and right ventricle function was observed when sparing the heart from radiation.
