Meta-analysis of the incidence and patterns of second neoplasms (SNs) after photon craniospinal irradiation (CSI) in children with medulloblastoma (MB).
Proto therapy Time
April 2018
Executive summary
This meta-analysis reported that the 10-year cumulative incidence was 6.1% for all SNs, including 3.1% for SBNs (benign) and 3.7% for SMNs (malignant), with a majority in areas of exit RT dose.
Studies are needed to determine whether the use of proton therapy, which has no exit RT dose, is associated with a lower incidence of SNs.
