Delivery of re-irradiation and complex palliative radiotherapy using proton therapy in pediatric cancer patients.
This study from Upenn retrospectively reviewed 18 pediatric patients who received palliative-intent proton radiation therapy (PIPRT), and reported that the most common indication for PIPRT was reRT. Indications for palliation included durable tumor control, neurologic symptoms, pain, airway compromise, and great vessel compression. The authors concluded that PIPRT appeared to be safe, with no cases of high-grade toxicity.
