Intensity-modulated proton therapy versus volumetric-modulated ARC therapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A long-term, multicenter cohort study
Published in the Green Journal, this study from Taiwan compared treatment results of 276 patients with NPC treated with IMPT with a matched cohort of 276 patients who received VMAT. This study reported a consistently better OS rate with the IMPT group than that of the VMAT group. The di9erence in disease recurrence rates did not reach statistical significance, but a trend was observed with IMPT patients exhibiting a better outcome. A significantly lower incidence of feeding tube placement among patients treated with IMPT was noted. The authors concluded that IMPT was associated with significantly better overall survival outcomes and a lower incidence of dysphagia compared to VMAT in NPC patients.
